The Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce is currently taking applications for its inaugural Tours for Teachers program, which aims to support workforce readiness, build talent pipelines and bridge the gap between educators and businesses within Castle Rock and Douglas County.  This new program provides an in-depth discussion and "behind the scenes" tour of local businesses and industries in Douglas County.  Allowing educators to collaborate with business leaders to prepare the students to enter the workforce.  "Tours for Teachers allow our professionals in the classroom the opportunity to visit area businesses that will eventually employ the students they are teaching. They get to hear directly from CEO’s and the current workforce on the skills they need in the future and the products or services the business produces. Our teachers can take that knowledge directly back into the classroom which helps create a more well-rounded curriculum and teaching environment." said Eric Dunker, Ph.D., Vice President: Workforce and Economic Development with Arapahoe Community College.

Katherine Fromer with Douglas County School District's Work -Based Learning Specialist had this to say about the Tours for Teachers Program:  "DCSD is excited for our educators to participate in the Tours for Teachers program! It supports the district's career pathway mission, an important initiative for their students.  Teachers/Counselors/Administrators will be exposed to what the current and future workforce needs are. This will allow them to see firsthand what the workforce is needing, what opportunities are available, and how to better equip their students to enter the career field."

Carrie Lohr, Workforce Readiness Coordinator for the Castle Rock Chamber, said, " By opening up the communication between both local businesses and educators we will provide students the resources needed to enter the work force, promote earn while you learn career opportunities and reduce the "training to productivity" gap.  This will be a win win for our education system and our business leaders. "

Tours for Teachers is part of Talent Pipeline Douglas County (TPDC) and the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce Workforce Readiness programs. The goal of these programs are  to promote feasible solutions to the labor shortage, connect employers and employees, build career pipelines within industries and highlight importance of skills based/credential hiring.  It is our desire to promote the businesses in the community and find avenues for them to get the team members that they need.  Tours for Teachers allows the Teachers to see first hand what the business community needs for students to enter the workforce directly from high school.  Tours for Teachers is a collaboration between the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce, Douglas County School District, AD Works and Arapahoe Community College.

This program is being sponsored by the Aloha Fund, Brookside Inn and Springer Family Foundation.  Hilleary Everist with the Aloha Fund was happy to support the program as "children and youth are our future.  Anything that will increase their ability to contribute to society is incredibly valuable.  Tours for Teachers equips the teacher to better prepare the student for the future."
